Wedding Trends for 2011 - Examiner

Posted: 01 Feb 2011 07:52 AM PST

What are five trends for wedding dresses & accessories in 2011?

1.    Full bloom! Floral details are a bridal must this season

2.    The new "it" wedding accessory? A belt. Chelsea Clinton, was this trend starter.

3.    For an alternative to a veil, try a great hair clip, feather or headband the bigger, the better.

4.    Peek-a-boo necklines and cut-outs show a little, without showing a lot.

5.    Think texture and layers; this does not have to mean bulk. Mixing and matching textures and layers can add interest and detail to your dress with out having to add color.

What style works best for what body shape?

Petite Body: Stick to dresses that are form fitting. Stay away from large prints and too many details, as they will swallow you up. A-line dresses, or a simple sheath dress are great options.

Curvy Body: wear a sweetheart neckline to mimic the curves of your body; a mermaid style dress will also flatter your shape. Remember curves are in, so show them off!

Pear Shaped Body: No problem! Dresses that are fitted in the bust and then flare out below the waist are best for this body type. Look for empire, baby doll and full bottom dresses.

Athletic Shaped: Create natural waist and bust lines by wearing a corset, and add a belt or detail at your waist to make your shape look even more feminine.

Everyone should remember the foundation of your outfit is your under garments. Make sure you meet with a specialist for a proper bra fitting. Having the right under garment will make a huge difference in your appearance. So swallow your pride and pull up your spanx, 'cause let's face it, we can all use a little help. It's about working with what you've got and every women has a special something, so give it your best on your big day!

Does it have to be white?

No, it doesn't. Brides are opting out of white for fun colors like gold, lilac, blush and silver. Just remember, it doesn't have to be white but it does have to be you.

What are the trends for wedding jewelry? Still platinum? Clear stones? What's other than traditional is popular? Where can we find it?

It's the gold era. Gone are the days of white gold and platinum settings. Yellow gold is making a come back. "More brides are choosing gold settings over white gold or platinum" says Kaki Gaines, design assistant at Kendra Scott Jewelry. Kendra Scott quickly became one of Texas' most famous jewelry designers and caters to every kind of bride. The big trend for brides is customization. Today, it's not just about clear stones. Brides can find stones in almost any color, matching their bridesmaid's dresses or even their bouquets! Check out Kendra's color bar for complete customization at http://www.kendrascott.com. Spring's non traditional stone choice: rose quartz.

Red lipstick is hot again--Does it work for a wedding day? How do we pull it off?

"Red lips will always be a timeless and classic look for any bride on her big day" says Clarissa Luna, pro make up artist. "It's all about finding the right red for your skin tone and pairing it with a simply clean eye: think Marilyn Monroe or Audrey Hepburn."

What are some new trends in throwing weddings receptions?

Weddings are meant to be fun, so some couples are opting for interactive receptions, whether it be fun at the carnival, a reception at a night club full of dancing, or even a drive up food truck/trailer instead of a sit down formal dinner, once the vows and love have been exchanged, it's time to get down with your guests.
