It's always smart to support local talent. That's why you may want to check out Carla Manuel's trunk show Dec. 19. The Del Mar clothing designer will debut her new jewelry line along with showing her one-of-a-kind fashions from her Kites line. In addition to Manuel's designs, the trunk show will also feature Malaika handbags and jewelry by Lindsay Malaika and Kendrick Klips for Kids, children's hair clips by designer Jennifer Kendrick. Manuel, a native of Brazil, has been designing clothing for more than 20 years and started her Kites line eight years ago. She describes her clothing as "feminine with an edge." "The line is playful and sexy yet elegant and unique, transcending age and style barriers," she said. "My clothing can go from the farmers' market to the red carpet. It's very diverse and offers something for everybody." The trunk show is from noon to 5:30 p.m. Dec. 19 at Manuel's Kites Design studio, 12797 Via Esperia, Del Mar.
