The Lost Wedding Ring - Associated Content

When Frank and I were planning to get married he took me in to the jewelers to pick out my own wedding ring. He had $700 to spend but no clue what to buy. Back in 1967, that was a lot of money
and could buy a very nice ring.

When we were looking for the perfect ring, I had this darn nagging reminder in my head. We were young and had so many things we needed to spend our money on and so my frugal nature kicked in. I chose a very lovely little wedding ring set that cost a total of $50! The little hearts on both sides was the clincher for my romantic yet frugal little soul. Yes, the diamond was so small that I would have to look closely to make sure I hadn't lost it. This set lasted for 17 years before I wore the band completely out. I then just purchased a nice gold band telling my husband that he should save his money because when our 25th wedding anniversary rolled around he was going to buy me a nice ring!

Our 25th wedding anniversary was getting close but once again I thought we just shouldn't spend the money on a ring for me. But, I had a good friend who just would not let it go. She made all of the arrangements for us to go down to Salt Lake City to a special jeweler. Heck, they even drove us down and arranged a night in Park City. How could we not go?

Walking into the jewelry store was quite an adventure as we had to have special access through armed guards. Gosh, I just wanted a little ole diamond ring! Choosing a setting and then a diamond was pretty confusing to me. I was willing to settle for just about anything they had in the store as they all looked nice to me. I had no clue what they were talking most of the time. Wasn't a diamond just a diamond? It sparkled, that was good enough for me.

I finally found a pretty setting with two oval diamonds on each side. They were twice as big as my first ring! When the jeweler started setting in diamonds my friend kept saying, "A little bigger one please." I finally said, "Okay, that's big enough for me and I'm sure it's going to cost a fortune." Frank just grunted. Two weeks later I had my new wedding ring.

Hilary Duff Wedding Photos -- OFFICIAL! - Just Jared

Posted: 18 Aug 2010 09:18 AM PDT

Check out the first official wedding photos of Hilary Duff and pro hockey player Mike Comrie!

"It feels wonderful [to be married]," the 22-year-old bride told OK!. "It hasn't fully sunk in yet!"

Hil, 22, and Mike, 29, tied the knot at a private residence on Saturday night (August 14) in Santa Barbara, Calif. Here are some more tidbits from Hilary of the wedding:

On not starting off her wedding day right: "I started my day with a chipped tooth! My wedding planner [Mindy Weiss] snuck me out to the dentist! Thank goodness it was fixed within the hour."

On her vows: "We didn't write our vows word for word. I researched on the Internet for three days! I read (about) other people's ceremonies, picking and choosing what I liked. We choose a few poems and a ring blessing. I really feel that it's our own."

On her something "old, new, borrowed, blue": "I wore blue underwear and borrowed all of the jewelry (from Van Cleef & Arpels), and the something old was my great-grandmother's cameo, which I wore on the inside of my dress. The dress itself was new."

And according to NYP, the couple signed a pre-nup! Although the Duffster is seemingly more famous than her husband, Mike is the heir to his dad's fortune — furniture and appliance retailer The Brick in Edmonton (estimated to be $500 million).

"It was a totally amicable agreement. They love each other very much and knew this was just a technicality," said one insider. Gotta protect those assets!

The couple reportedly got paid a cool $1 million for OK!'s exclusive coverage of the wedding.

Hilary Duff chips tooth on wedding day - AZCentral.com

Hilary Duff tied the knot with hockey player Mike Comrie at a beautiful sunset ceremony on Aug. 14, but not everything was so perfect earlier in the day: "I started my day with a chipped tooth!"

Duff tells OK! Magazine: "My wedding planner snuck me out to the dentist! Thank goodness it was fixed within the hour."

And when it came to her vows, the bride went to the Web: "We didn't write our vows word for word. I researched on the Internet for three days! I read (about) other people's ceremonies, picking and choosing what I liked. We chose a few poems and a ring blessing. I really feel that it's our own."

-On preparations for the big day: "I planned every detail," says Duff of the celebration, which took place outdoors under a muslin tent nestled among the trees. "Mindy (Weiss) is a miracle worker because we didn't have a lot of time to plan, and she just came in and made it magical — my dream wedding come true."

-Her special requests for the menu: "Junk food! Totally, because I've been so good. I said to my sister (Haylie), 'After the wedding is over, I'm going to eat 16,000 calories!' The food was one of the most exciting parts (of planning). The catering company cooked everything for us so we could taste everything they were going to serve. Mike and I have a favorite restaurant, Giorgio Baldi (in Santa Monica, Calif.), so they modeled this delicious truffled corn ravioli from there. We had pigs in a blanket; these really cute heart-shaped, puffed, fried things; sliders with Wagyu beef and Gruyère cheese; pepper-crusted rib-eye steak; and miso-glazed black cod. We did a jalapeño pineapple martini that my mom actually created. And the dessert station had warm, molten chocolate cake and profiterole ice cream sandwiches with hot fudge dipping sauce. I'm drooling just thinking about it!"

-Her "old, new, borrowed, blue": "I wore blue underwear and borrowed all of the jewelry (from Van Cleef & Arpels), and the something old was my great-grandmother's cameo, which I wore on the inside of my dress. The dress itself was new."

-How she met Comrie: "Through a mutual friend. Mike went on a trip to Idaho to stay at a friend's house, and my sister and I were invited as well. Mike and I ended up talking and hanging out the entire weekend. And we didn't spend a day apart after that. It's been smooth sailing ever since."

-The first person she broke the engagement news to: "Of course my mother! Mike had actually called her about 15 minutes before he (proposed), so she was just sitting there waiting by her phone. There were a lot of screams."

Hilary Duff Shares Wedding Photo! - Entertainment Online

Posted: 18 Aug 2010 06:19 AM PDT

Hilary Duff's big day began all wrong, but it certainly didn't end that way.

"I started my day with a chipped tooth!" she reveals in the new issue of OK! "My wedding planner snuck me out to the dentist! Thank goodness it was fixed within the hour."

Fortunately, everything else went smoothly for the 22-year-old bride as she tied the knot with Mike Comrie last weekend in Santa Barbara, Calif.

Walking down the aisle in front of about 100 guests, Duff wore a Vera Wang gown with an organza mermaid look that was adorned with giant blossoms while carrying a bouquet of blush dahlias.

"There are not even words to describe it," says the starlet about her dress. "It's exactly what I imagined, plus 10 times better."

Duff says she also abided by the tradition of wearing something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.

"I wore blue underwear and borrowed all of the jewelry [from Van Cleef & Arpels], and the something old was my great-grandmother's cameo, which I wore on the inside of my dress. The dress itself was new."

Upon exchanging vows, the newly married couple joined their loved ones under a muslin tent for the reception, which, according to Duff, featured truffled corn ravioli, pepper-crusted rib-eye steak and miso-glazed black cod, as well as a dessert station that included ice cream sandwiches with hot fudge dipping sauce.

Sounds like husband and wife are definitely off to a sweet start!
