Gold and its durability!

The main choices of metal for wedding rings in the past were 14 and 18 karat Gold and a little rarer Platinum.  Now–a-days many alloys determine the durability, the wearable factor and of course the cost factor of the wedding jewelry. All precious metals are shiny and beautiful especially when new. Here are some facts that  one should know about gold.

Gold is a very soft metal and on it's own would never be able to hold its shape and design. No other metal is as ductile or as malleable as gold. As a matter of fact a single ounce of gold can be drawn into  five miles of wire.
Pure gold is marked as 24 Karat and the higher the number the softer the gold i.e. 24K,18K, 14K, 10k etc.

Pure gold (24/24, or 100% gold) has a lovely strong yellow color but is very soft and not practical to use as jewelry especially not rings.
18K gold is (18/24, or 75% gold) is what's traditionally used in Europe for wedding rings.
The US most commonly uses  14K gold (14/24 or 58.33% gold) for most jewelry applications and will be more hard wearing than 18K.
10K gold (10/24 or 41.66% gold) is also a wide spread combination used word-wide especially in fashion pieces.
The UK and Ireland uses 9K gold (9/24 or 37.5%gold)  for fashion jewelry and mostly 14K for rings .
So obviously the lower the % of gold in the mix the stronger and hard-wearing the resulting metal becomes but it also becomes paler and a lesser golden color.

Already an industry leader among online retailers of tungsten rings and tungsten wedding bands, Tungsten World is expanding its Internet presence with consumers through social media.

Brea, CA (PRWEB) May 25, 2010 -- Already an industry leader among online retailers of tungsten rings, tungsten wedding bands, and jewelry, Tungsten World is expanding its Internet presence with consumers.

With the abundance of social media outlets available, it is no longer enough to rely solely upon a website to promote products these days. Consumers are finding new ways to connect and get info about potential companies and products, with social networks like Facebook and Twitter leading the way.

In recognition of this, Tungsten World will be introducing the Tungsten World Facebook page, as well as the Tungsten World Twitter page.

Each social media outlet will serve as an extension to Tungsten World's main site, TungstenWorld.com, and will continue to provide the highest levels of service and information on the Internet. In addition to the information found on TungstenWorld.com, Tungsten World's Facebook and Twitter will allow consumers a greater opportunity to directly interact with Tungsten World and fellow tungsten wedding band customers.

"We want to be able to engage our customers on the social media level," says Stephen McKenna, Tungsten World owner. "The Facebook and Twitter sites will serve as a valuable channel for us to continue our commitment to unprecedented customer service and support, as well as allow us to pass along special promotions and exclusive deals to our followers on the sites."

Along with the Facebook and Twitter sites, Tungsten World has launched the Tungsten World Blog on their website. The blog gives the opportunity to leave feedback and interact with the company, as well as other customers. It also serves as a great resource for those looking to get more information on tungsten rings and the designer tungsten carbide products Tungsten World carries.
