Incorporating April 29 in History into the Royal Wedding - YAHOO! Posted: 13 Jan 2011 02:27 PM PST Last November the official royal wedding date was set for April 29. Prince William and Kate Middleton are hoping to say their vows in the famed Westminster Abbey on a beautiful English spring day. It goes without saying that when royalty weds, especially royalty a leap frog from the throne, that royalty is the main theme of the day. From uniformed guards and elaborate hats to massive crowds and powerful attendees, the wedding will have all of the pomp and circumstance of a full-fledged royal function while remaining a "semi-state occasion" according to The Guardian. However, should the royal family decide to look around for a few random ideas to throw into the wedding mix, there are a few tidbits to be found using the royal wedding date of April 29 as a stepping stone into the past with BrainyHistory. Joan of Arc. In 1429 Joan of Arc led Orleans, France to victory over England. Not exactly an occasion the British royals would want to commemorate in a grandiose manner. Perhaps they could suffice by issuing an invite to Leelee Sobieski, the actress who portrayed Joan of Arc in a 1999 TV event? Mozart. In 1784 Mozart's Sonata in B flat, K454 had its premiere in Vienna. This sonata would be highly enjoyable as piped in music before or after the wedding in smaller rooms hosting members of the wedding party. Rubber. In 1813, rubber was patented. While word association could likely lead the average person to a few fun wedding gift suggestions utilizing the word rubber, none would be royal enough for the actual wedding day. A few Rubbermaid containers would make a fun shower gift though. Storage is an issue in any closet. Peace. 1856 found April 29 establishing peace between England and Russia. A white dove is the symbol of peace, and the releasing of white doves is a traditional wedding event in many instances. Incorporating this bit of symbolism into the royal wedding theme is the perfect opportunity to multitask. Food. In 1945, the Royal Air Force was able to air drop food from above occupied Holland down to hungry residents in Operation Manna. The royal family contains multiple members who lived through and served in various capacities during the second Great War. The most conspicuous is Queen Elizabeth II. R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Aretha Franklin released her signature song on April 29, 1967. The mutual respect Prince William and Kate Middleton feel for each other made their courtship lead to marriage. An Aretha number at the wedding party can ensure it stays that way. Even if the royal family doesn't commemorate the history of April 29 as they add to the significant moments of the day, we commoners can appreciate the panorama of events that lead to one man and one woman promising, "I do."
