Talk about a surprise guest.

After two children and four years together, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden invited about 130 close family and friends for their scheduled wedding Saturday.

But one attendee stood way out: a trained elephant was spotted being led into the Los Angeles estate of Richie's father, music superstar Lionel Richie, where two tents were set up for the ceremony on a warm evening.

Otherwise, the couple appeared to be sticking to tradition. Richie wore a wedding dress by Marchesa, and their rings were by jeweler Neil Lane, who also crafted Richie's 4-carat engagement ring, sources tell PEOPLE.

"They're going all-out with the decor." says another source. "Nicole wanted a memorable, elegant affair for only their closest friends and family on their special day."

How the elephant fit in wasn't immediately known.

Guests included the groom's twin brother and Good Charlotte bandmate Benji Madden, 31, Sam Ronson, as well as Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale.

Richie, 29 and Madden, 31, announced their engagement in February, and Richie's friends threw her a luxurious bachelorette party in Mexico in September.

Royal Wedding: Prince William and Kate Get Marital Counseling - Huffingtonpost.com

LONDON — Prince William and fiancee Kate Middleton have another chore on their must-do pre-wedding list: Sit down with priests to think about the vows they will make.

The couple are expected to meet Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams and Bishop of London Richard Chartres before they marry April 29, palace officials said Wednesday. Both clergy will be involved in the wedding ceremony at London's Westminster Abbey.

"It's customary for a priest to meet with the couple before their wedding," said Maria Papworth, Williams' spokeswoman.

These marriage preparation sessions include discussions on how to handle marital disagreements and how to prepare for the changes brought on by parenthood. Meetings often take place in groups, but talks for the soon-to-be royal couple will be private and strictly confidential.

The marriage of William's parents, Prince Charles and Princess Diana, ended in divorce. St. James Palace would not comment on whether they also received similar attention, but it is normal practice for a Church of England wedding.
