You can bring a decorator look with chic style to your wedding reception that feels like a fantasy land for a perfect and memorable wedding. For the bride who wants to cut back on pricey designers and flower decorators, but not style, these jeweled ribbons will feel like you didn't.

A unique new trend this year are jeweled ribbons attached to trees or bushes that branch nicely. To polish off the look, glass jewels can be delicately scattered on the table and plates. This look will bring your wedding into another dimension of romance, without the price tag.

You can buy 2,000 faceted glass jewels for $10 on the internet, invest a bit of time, and you have a posh and designer look, with loads of style, for your wedding reception area.

Making these yourself can be fun and you have plenty of color options. It takes about a minute a ribbon, is super easy, so you can calculate your time as to how ornate you want to get with this idea.

  • Step 1- Measure and cut each ribbon to 18"
  • Step 2- Take one end of a ribbon and cut both corners diagonally, should look like an arrow.
  • Step 3- Hot glue two jewels to the tip of the cut ribbon
  • Step 4- Hang ribbons from ceilings, trees, bushes or anywhere you want!
     

Get creative, you can also place the wedding jewels evenly on the ribbon, glue and let dry, then twist knots so that the jewels protrude out.

"I really like your earrings, Mom," my 4-year-old daughter said one recent morning.

"Thanks," I replied. "Papa made them for me when I graduated from high school."

"Wow," she breathed, either from imaging that her great-grandfather actually made them or how long it's been since her mom was in high school.

I was wearing opal stud earrings with my T-shirt and cotton pants, ready to face a summer day of running errands with gems on my ears that cost more than the rest of my outfit put together.

Most of my favorite jewelry is simple pieces created with polished rocks, made by my grandfather. In retirement, he took up making jewelry, specializing in faceting gemstones.

The pieces he made are some of my favorites for two reasons: one, sentimentality; and two, they're classic. The combination makes me feel confident every time I wear them.

And isn't that what jewelry should do? It should complete an outfit, yes, but it should also make you feel your best, whether you're at a job interview or just having fun.

Actually, all my favorite jewelry fits into one or both of these categories. The silver locket my grandmother gave me when I was poking through her jewelry box and the engraved diamond wedding band from my other grandmother fit both categories. They are delicate yet well-crafted pieces that make me think of my grandmothers every time I put them on.

The dangly mother-of-pearl and garnet earrings I bought in South Africa at the end of an incredible adventure are in the more sentimental category, as is the Murano glass ring my husband got me in Murano, Italy, on our fifth anniversary.

Then there are the drop pearl earrings my husband gave me for Christmas one year. I lost one the very next day while shopping, but my husband - after tracing my steps at all the stores and coming up empty - wrote to the jeweler, who promptly sent a replacement. How thoughtful is that?

My classic pieces are reliable for a reason. Pearl stud earrings top the list. They fit my coloring and round face and go with just about any outfit. My silver-link watch is delicate enough to wear for an evening out yet sturdy enough to wear to the playground.

This is not to say that all my jewelry is old-fashioned or staid. Just like a good wardrobe, I build on strong classics with a few fun pieces. But I always return to what works and what makes me feel good.

When my closet is overflowing, I have no problem weeding out pieces. When my jewelry box is overflowing, I have more trouble.

It's a trip down memory lane remembering who made me these earrings or where I picked up that ring. Each piece is a souvenir of some remarkable person or event in my life. Every ring or necklace has a story, and it's those stories that make me feel so good when I wear them.

And I look forward to sharing all those stories with my daughter when she wants to borrow a piece to wear.

Usually the charge a percent of your wedding or by the services they provide. Remember, they are the professionals and will think of at least 100 things you didn't. If you are concerned about going over budget, the best way to keep from it is to hire a wedding planner. Search your area for one that can fit your needs.

Have fun with your wedding. Take everything one step at a time and remember that it's the journey you are about to take that really matters.
